I keep trying to make a model hollow in meshmaker and when I export it, it turns out to be a solid. How can I fix this? If anyone is willing to help, I would appreciate it. I’m releasing a product to a small community in a couple days and I need this now!
“You don’t want a hollow object most the time. It will print terribly.”
This is usually true. I get orders where customers have hallowed out the model, in an attempt to save on pricing.
Almost always, these will not only print better with infill, but the hallowed out model will still require support material inside, so they end up not saving. Particularly if I have to print a lot of internal support.
But, lets take the example of a 7 1/2 inch ball. Printed with a reasonable thickness. support is only needed in the very center of the inside. So in this case, which would be rare, it is a great example of where hallow might make sense.
Likewise, there are times when a model is supposed to be hallow, but the slicer refuses to see it as hallow. In these cases, makeprintable.com, (which I am not associated with) is a great solution.
