3D printing small figures with removable parts?

Hello peeps!

I’m designing a board game, and my team decided to test a small 3D figure with detachable limbs, that would convey the game story into the gameplay.

I considered including a small magnet inside the body, and include a small iron filament on the limbs to have them attached, with a small housing on shoulders (on the main body) and tights to hide this filament.

Is it possible to 3D print around the magnet? Or would it be better to print the figure in 2 section and glue it around the magnet?

I’m new to the 3D printing scene, but I’d be eager to learn about it!

Normally items are modeled to have the magnet pop into the print or two pieces screws together around the magnet. You could also model in room for a steel ball bearing or second magnet vs using magnetic filament. Once you start selling tens of thousands of games you’ll want to move to injection molding and having a more standard plastic and model will make that stage easier. It is also possible to model in ball and cup structures where the body parts will snap into the model.
